Some older "Antique" beds require slightly
different size mattress sets. A current standard size
mattress set simply will not fit. You will need to
order a "Custom" size in order to fit the
bed correctly.
The correct fit is very important. It must have at
least 1/2" clearance on the width or 1/4"
on each side between the rails to allow room for the
box spring to fit between the rails. The length measurement
is also important because it must allow an acceptable
amount of hand clearance between the headboard and
footboard in order to make the bed.
At least a 2" clearance on the length should
be considered to allow enough room for sheets, pad,
and comforters. When measuring your custom size bed
bear in mind the carvings in the wood at the headboard
and footboard. The height measurement should compliment
the original design of the wood.
The height of your custom size mattress set can be
ordered to correspond to personal preferences of sitting
height. Be sure to start your measurement of height
from the base of the side rails starting at the top
of the slats (if required) to the bottom of the carving
of the wood designs that you personally want to expose
for view. Again, allow 1" adjustment for sheets,
pads, and comforters for finish height of your new
custom size mattress set. Remember that the True-Flex
Box Springs and Custom Foundations are available in
3", 5", and 7" finish models.
NOTE: Always ask a friend to help in measuring your
bed. It really takes 2 people to properly hold the
tape measure and to ensure that the proper placement
is correct before taking the final reading. In other
words, it's hard to hold one end of the tape measure
and read the other end by yourself.
